Brent Cross Shopping Centre: Retailers Get Set for Short Sharp Boxing Day Sales

LONDON–(BUSINESS WIRE)– Following a busy December, well ahead of last year, there will be no rest for retailers at Brent Cross Shopping Centre, as late this afternoon they prepare for a Boxing Day sales bonanza.

By 1pm today the Centre had seen 30,000 shoppers through the doors – driven largely by food shoppers and men buying last minute gifts. On Boxing Day, over 70,000 shoppers are expected to take advantage of discounts of up to 70% off across most of Brent Cross’ 125 stores.

River Island, Hollister and the brand new Banana Republic store are set to be particularly popular, as queues of shoppers race to get their hands on the coveted bargains.

Norman Black, from Brent Cross Shopping Centre, says; “Boxing Day sales at Brent Cross promise to be big this year, as retailers have largely held their nerve pre-Christmas, offering far fewer discounts than in 2008.

“Although some stores have started their sales today, in the run up to Christmas this year we have seen average discounts of 25% off across 25% of stock. This compares to typical discounts of 40% off across 50% of stock in the same week last year.

“From Boxing Day, the sales are going to be short and sharp, with stores immediately offering up to 70% off in a bid to clear their stock quickly to make way for new season products in January. Retailers have planned their stock levels carefully this year and don’t have much depth remaining, so, if you are looking for a bargain you will need to get in early as the quality items won’t be around for long.”

On Sunday the 27th December sales begin at Brent Cross’s largest retailers, John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and Fenwick, with significant reductions for those looking for bargains.
