FARM! Farm paintings, sculpture of farm animals …and it’s on a farm
Sculptor Sophie Thompson and painter Jan Harvey will exhibit work on the theme of farms at a brand new farm in Kingston Bagpuize, near Abingdon.
When the proprietor of Fallowfields Country House Hotel, Anthony Lloyd, decided to set up his on-site farm he planned to reduce the ‘food miles’ for animals and vegetables to ‘food yards.’ His idea was to have a fresh supply of ingredients for the hotel kitchen. In this way, he could guarantee high standards of welfare for his chickens, ducks, pigs and cattle and ensure that the produce from his vegetable plots were truly organic.
“It has been a great success,” he says, “Our guests love the fact that the animals are here and they can take a walk through the grounds at any time to see the high standards we have adopted to make our farm the best it can be.”
In July, two local artists Jan Harvey and Sophie Thompson, will be helping to celebrate the third year of the venture with an exhibition of farm buildings and farm animals in dynamic, colourful paintings and in sculptures made from recycled scrap metal.
The prize draw running throughout the show will give visitors chance to win an original Sophie Thompson sculpture and all proceeds will be donated to the Local Riding for the Disabled Centre, which is just along the road in Southmoor.
“We have a long association with the RDA,” says Anthony, “When Jan and Sophie suggested a donation could be made to this wonderful charity I thought it was a marvellous idea.”
The exhibition runs from 3 -10 July (closed 4 July). It is open from 10.00am to 7pm daily and, as an extra attraction, guest can enjoy a cream tea offer. Buy one get one free!
